The Renewed Life
Is it an exaggeration to say that Christ is everything; all that truly matters? What kind of change should we expect in light of knowing Christ? Surely the answer is the “absolute” kind of change – a radical and comprehensive transformation. But that seems intense, doesn’t it? What does change look like? How do we accomplish it? At the beginning of the summer, I said I was praying for renewal. Renewal is something we must seek regularly in order to “arrest and counteract the default mode of the human heart”. Inspired by Paul’s prayer (Col 1:9-14), I defined renewal as a work of God to give us a reassurance of salvation, a revitalization of our loves, and a readjustment of our character. As we come to the last two chapters of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we will unpack Paul’s vision for transformation of the Christian life in all aspects of character and relationships. For indeed, the Christian, who is a new person, is being renewed (Col 3:10).
