ENCOUNTER is the Men's Ministry at First Congregational Church, and it offers men the opportunity to get involved in our church body in a way that fits their schedule. Our Purpose in this ministry is to encourage men in the church as they seek to become disciples of Christ, and to assist them as they grow in their faith, impacting their spheres of influence for Him.
Our Goal is simple: To encounter Christ in our lives on a daily basis, and impact our world for Him.
Our desire is not to create one more thing to fill up men's schedules, but to help them become the fathers, husbands, employers, employees, and disciples for Christ that God intends us all to be. We hope to accomplish this goal through four different avenues. These avenues are:

Bible Studies that men can be a part of on Saturday mornings at the church. Currently, we are studying the book of Romans in the prayer room of the church. If you would like to become a part of this study, please contact Pastor Tansill for more information.

Yearly Retreats have
become an annual event of the men's ministry. Each Spring
we go on a weekend
retreat for a time of fellowship and teaching around some of the
issues that men face. This Spring, MAY 2-4,
we will be going to Wells, ME, for a special retreat called,
"A Praying Life: Relating To God. ". Our special
guest speaker for this event will be author and speaker, Paul E. Miller.
Paul is a well-known speaker, who has written numerous books on topics such as prayer, living as children of God, and the Person of Jesus. This year's retreat is one you will want to attend. Not only have we scheduled more time for recreational activities (hiking, boating, etc.), but we have added an extra day for the same price as last year's two day retreat, and have added more time for fellowship. Quarterly Men's Breakfasts will offer men the opportunity to meet together on a Saturday morning quarterly to fellowship with others they may not see on a regular basis, and to hear a guest speaker address issues that are close to all of our hearts. This promises to be a great time of fellowship, good food, and growth in our relationship with Christ.

Small Groups are probably the most important thing that we want to be about. For men to grow best in their relationship with God and others they need to be in community, and that is what we want to offer. It is our hope to be able to offer every man an opportunity to meet with others just like himself on a regular basis, and discuss what God is doing in their lives and how they are incorporating their faith into their various spheres of influence.
